What a great way to experience the island of St. John.   I started before sunrise to try to avoid as much of the sun as possible. I had downloaded the route onto my phone which helped tremendously especially in the beginning.  You initially start on a paved road which leads you to a beach.  Then you have to climb over some rocks to get to the other side of the beach.   You run along the beach until you have to go into the jungle, Reef Bay Trail. From here you run on single track trails through the jungle.  There is a lot of climbing.  Then you have to run on roads to Coral Bay for a while until you hit the trails again.  At Coral Bay, there is a convenience store where you can buy some water if needed. This is the last place I saw to stock up, before you get to Cruz Bay.  From Coral Bay, you then head into a single track trail until you head down to Annaberg beach. You run along beach to the North Shore Road, which is the main thorough fare of the island to all the beaches.  Here you are very expose, not only to the sun, but to a lot of traffic.  So be careful.   The North Shore Road leads you to Cruz Bay. Where you are dodging traffic left and right, this was the worse part of the loop.   After Cruz Bay you head back to the start.  This section has a lot of steep climbing, and I mean steep. Probably 15-20 percent grade.   I was hoping to finish sooner, but the heat and humidity took a toll.   I didn’t have to resupply throughout the loop.
