For this solo run, I camped the night before in my car at the Long Canyon Trailhead. At 7:30am sharp, I headed out shirtless with a pocket full of snacks: 1 banana, 1 plum, 1/2 carrot, 3 figs, dried mangos, and a Manuka Honey Packet. At 1 hour and 3.5 miles, I hit a nice campsite where the valley opens up for the first time. By 2 hours, I was over the top, past Deer Lake, and at the junction for Luella Lake. Traffic was light the whole way and fun to chase then smoke. Only refilled my 0.75 liter water bottle at a spring just below Bee Tree Gap and at Diamond Lake, then again at the spring on the way down. Accidently took a swim in Diamond when I wobbled off a rock as I was bent down refilling. Momentum! Although it was super smoky, it was still a great run and scenic up close. Thanks Nate Smith for suggesting this excellent route.
