Description

This route takes in all of the welsh 3000s but in a non traditional way of north to south making the tallest section the last and with a final summit of Snowdon. This route also is from road to road, rather than peak to peak.

From the first peak of 15 the route follows the traditional welsh 3000s in reverse across the Carneddau Range taking in 7 of the 3000 ft peaks, the last being Pen Y Old Wen, where the route descends into Ogwen valley all the time you have Tryfan staring at you as the next ascent.

Taking the steep footpath to the short scramble then up to summit Tryfan the smallest of the peaks, before descending to the south again a scramble, and then taking on the scree slop of Glyder Fawr, once up the 2nd of 5 peaks in this Glyder Range the footpath continues across the remaining three peaks, with a great view of the Carneddau range where you started and the Snowdon Massif where you will finish.  Once you summit the final Glyder of Elidir Fawr (923m) you take the steep descent back down to nearly sea level (100m) before the short road section along to the start of Crib Goch.

Crib Goch is tackled using the footpath to the north rather than the tradition Pyg track start from the east, two thirds of the way up this steep climb the path turns to scree before making your final scramble up the summit from the North East. From here take in the fantastic ridge line traverse along to Garnedd Ugain before the short path down to the Finger stone at the top of PYG track and your final climb of the day to Snowdon Summit Trig point. The descent back to road is via the easier/shorter Pyg track back to Pen Y Pass car park.
