Description

Route linking two beautiful ranges in the northern Catskills with a road section.  This is a classic loop in the northern section of the Catskill Park, one of the most important hiking areas in New York State. It traverses four major peaks making use of marked trails, which are part of the Catskill 35: Thomas Cole Mountain (3,940'), Black Dome (3,980'), Blackhead (3,940'), Windham High Peak (3,524'). Trailheads are on Barnum Road and Peck Road. The peaks surround the picturesque Black Dome Valley. A short road section (4 miles/6.4 km) makes the loop possible. The route passes through quintessential Catskill terrain (woodland valley, sedimentary rock shelves, coniferous summit forest), including the valley community, and is good in any season. One of the best loops in the entire park.
