Description

This is one of the premier trials for Los Angeles County.

Well known trail: https://trails.lacounty.gov/Trail/53/schabarum-skyline-trail

PDF with trail sections: https://trails.lacounty.gov/Files/QuickGuide/SchabarumSkyline.pdf

Great pictures on the above resources but have included some of my own as well. Note that this is one of the most marked trials within LA County with some markers coming every 1/4 mile. (I have included some of those markers on the pictures submitted). Also, I have personally run every section of this trial and will be attempting a FKT on 11/19/21 at 6:00 a.m. from the Rio Hondo Trial Head. This route is unique, besides its natural beauty and ridgeline traverses, in that it goes across multiple cities but is owned by the County of Los Angeles, therefore the cities are not permitted to block any parts of the trials. Accordingly, this trial maintains the historical equestrian routes which were set in the san gabriel valley before in influx of settlement in the valley. In an effort to maintain this trials historic nature and use, adding the route to the FKT community would only further solidify the trial against future restrictions. Trails > Construction.

This trial has some of the most beautiful sections in the San Gabriel Valley and hopefully many hikers/runners/walkers will get to discover and enjoy its beauty for years to come.

benglish, if you happen to see this before your FKT attempt this Friday, what style are you attempting this in? Is unsupported convenient with public fill-ups or does this favor self-supported better, assuming you don't have a support crew? This trail looks neat - it's been on my to-do list, but have never made it over there to see any of it yet. Good luck!
