Description

This is THE classic loop in the Flat Tops Wilderness. There are so many great loops in this part of the state but this is the classic. You may have seen this loop in various trail and backpacking guides or written up in a multitude of magazines. This loop can be run either direction around Rat Mt. and Big Marvine Peak. Expect snow in winter/spring and bugs in the summer. This is a popular destination for hunters so trails can be busy during hunting season. Be visible if running this in September-November... bright clothing! The trail is marked with massive totems above tree-line in case you encounter snow.

Information on the trails that make up this loop can be found on trailrunproject and US Forest Service resources.
